J. Life Sci. Biomed., 5(1): 01-05, 2015; pii:S225199391500001-5

Abstract

Protease is an enzyme that is able to hydrolyze peptide bonds of proteins and enzymes is one of the most widely used in industry. The aim of this research is to investigate the characterization of extracellular protease lactic acid bacteria (LAB) isolated from shrimp paste. Treatment used in this research is optimization condition of pH, temperature, the effect of metal and enzyme kinetics toward extracellular protease LAB. The result showed isolation and identification of lactic acid bacteria is Lactobacillus plantarum. Extracellular protease has enzyme activity 3,89 IU/ml, specific enzyme activity 0,34 IU/mg and protein content 4,16 mg/ml. Extracellular protease from L. plantarum has optimum activity at pH 7, 470C, activator Mg2+, Km 0,0797 mM and Vmax 0,0026 mmol/minutes/mg, and molecular weight range 25,35-69,64 kDa.

J. Life Sci. Biomed., 5(1): 06-10, 2015; pii:S225199391500002-5

Abstract

Sociology and education are closely related to each other. Whenever we speak of sociology, education system and schools have been studied as social phenomena. Thus the sociology changes affected social foundations of curriculum. Social foundations of curriculum are different considering attitudes of community planners toward society and the role of education in the engagement of these two subjects. In this paper, the main curriculum approaches influenced by social approaches, including cultural transmission theory, democratic citizenship and social reconstruction are being discussed. Through studding the historical development of sociology and the resulting change in curricula based on sociological perspectives, it can be understood that what is common within entire theories, approaches the related practices is the concerns of social equality and human effort to attain the ideal of seeking justice. However, the way to achieve "social equality" is challenging and varied. In this study, due to social changes and the need for prospective, a future-oriented approach to provide curriculum according to Islamic - Iranian identity for students to enter the indeterminate and international global arena, have been studied.

Prevalence Rate of Adverse Drug Reactions Caused by Eradicating Helicobacter Pylori in the Patients Treated by a Sequential Regimen

Masjedizadeh A, Shahriari A.

J. Life Sci. Biomed., 5(1): 11-14, 2015; pii:S225199391500003-5

Abstract

H. pylori infection in adults is usually chronic and it does not improve without specific treatment. H. pylori eradication prevents recurrence of most of its related diseases and it is considered as the best method to treat peptic ulcer disease. Being aware of the side effects and its prevalence may be considered as a major factor in selecting more appropriate prescription drugs. Therefore, the present study aims at studying the prevalence rate of adverse drug reactions caused by eradicating H. pylori in the patients treated by sequential regimens. Materials and Methods: 89 patients with positive H. pylori test were included in the intervention study. They were treated in a double blind manner without notifying the patients, researcher and statistical team. The patients were treated by the standard three-medicine treatment of H. pylori eradication. After proving eradication, the patients were evaluated for three months as far as prevalence of side effects are concerned. Results: The study group consisted of 89 patients: 39 women, and 50 men. The mean age of the patients was 57.88 years. Ten (11.4%) of the patients, 5 men (5.5% of men patients) and 5 women (6.9% of women patients), developed adverse drug reactions. Conclusion: it is suggested that we help to gain more knowledge about these side effects, and that we help to reduce morbidity and fatality resulting from them, by increasing the monitoring of drug side effects in all treatment wards, especially in patients who are being treated for Helicobacter pylori eradication.

The Effect of Voluntary Disclosure on the Relationship between Accruals Quality and Information Asymmetry

Hassan Pour Sh. and Arabi M.

J. Life Sci. Biomed., 5(1): 15-20, 2015; pii:S225199391500004-5

Abstract

The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of voluntary disclosure of financial information on the relationship between accruals quality and information asymmetry. Accruals quality was measured using the level of discretionary accruals, which was obtained through estimating those models introduced by Jones in 1995 and Kothari et al. in 2005. Information asymmetry was also calculated by the range of price offered to buy and sell shares in each company. The required data was collected using a sample of 149 companies listed in Tehran Stock Exchange from 2005 to 2012. The collected data was analyzed using combined data method and random effect models. The results showed that the level of discretionary accruals in the surveyed companies have a significant and positive relationship with information asymmetry. In addition, if more information is voluntarily disclosed, the intensity of the relationship between accruals quality and information asymmetry will be reduced. In other words, if more information is disclosed, the information asymmetry between shareholders decreases and discretionary accruals decreases as well.

Abstract

In the current challenging economic and environment increasing pressure and limited external resources, current assets and liabilities, that is to say, working capital of the economic enterprises is of great importance. Working capital optimal management of the economic enterprises can be considered as a competitive advantage for them. The main goal of this paper is to investigate the relationship between working capital management and profitability of listed companies in Tehran Stock Exchange. Research data was analyzed using population of 116 listed companies in Tehran Stock Exchange for the period of 2006-2011 by applying combination method of all data (pooled data) and ordinary least squares regression (OLS). The research results indicate that, there is a significant inverse relationship between cash conversion cycle and its components, including the collection period, inventory turnover period and accounts payable turnover period, and profitability of the firms. Corporate managers can increase the profitability of their company desirably by reducing the collection period and inventory turnover period.
